Many times in winter after we have endured long periods of cold and snow, we long for a change and look forward to the coming of spring.  We also endure winter seasons in our spiritual walk with God. It is a tough season of life when we are in many trials. Just when we need God the most, He seems to be silent. I have learned that the “teacher” never talks during the test. Also, a teacher never gives us a test without the lesson. So, if you and I are receiving a test this means that God has already taught us the lessons needed to go through the test. We need to look back at the times we were in other winter seasons and how God brought us through those difficult times because He remained so faithful!

We equate God to our human behaviour by if we are mad at somebody we stop talking to them. If God doesn’t talk to us or intervene in our present situation, we think He must be mad at us, be we really should be looking at it as we have already graduated!

We have a covenant with God and even though there are tough times and seasons just like in marriages, we must submit and become unselfish and carry on. This is when the covenant kicks in! Since we are in covenant, we just stay! God has not left us unprepared for our tough season! If we remember that we survived other tough seasons, we will survive our present season!

The bless man is like a tree that goes through more than one season. A tree that at one moment is fruitful and beautiful and for months it produces and everybody notices how beautiful God has made their life. Then comes that season when the leaves begin to fade, rot, and fall to the ground and the branches are empty and they look like they have been just pruned and cut down to nothing. To survive this season is to remember that you are a tree and that you must understand that cold weather does not kill the tree. Cold weather kills the bugs that kill the tree. Cold weather preserves the tree. So when I am going through a tough season, I must remember God is saying:”Later I will be using you, not just now.”

So, if we outlast the season of cold, barren, self defeat, hurt, and nothing is going right, and there is silence, be like the tree.  There will come a time when God will thaw us out. There will come a time in that very area I will produce, be fruitful, make hell pay, in that very area I was embarrassed, God will say I make My people like the tree that if they have their roots drawing from the river and are planted (planted in prayer, and planted in the Word of God), then I will be blessed!

The curse of Satan was “to go to and fro in the earth.” He had no place where he really belonged. Satan has no place of planting. The blessing of the Lord is when we are planted, planted in covenant with Him, planted in our marriage etc. The power of partnership is very powerful! The devil always tries to divide a partnership for he knows the strength of two agreeing together and the fact that when one falls, the other picks the fallen one up.

I trust this above teaching strengthens, encourages, and provides determination to you to carry on no matter what circumstances you may be enduring. Remember that God is always faithful to bring us through life’s problems and He knows exactly when to command the trials to be over.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD and whose trust is the LORD. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit.
